Christmas is here, but there’s a problem. Santa is sick! Not to worry: Mrs. Claus steps in and takes the reins.┬áThis rhyming story shows that even though Mrs. Claus doesn’t have all of Santa’s tricks up her sleeve, she can still make Christmas happen by putting on her thinking cap.

I may not have magic, but I’ve got a brain!

Mrs. Claus untangles reins, flies through blizzards, and plugs a hole in the sleigh to make sure all the children get their toys.

In addition to the well flowing rhymes, there are some really fun illustrations. We particularly enjoyed a spread showing Mrs. Claus’ route around the world from Sweden to Maine (Bean was excited, since we traveled to Maine this summer).

Interestingly, Mrs. C. is depicted with red hair (a change from the standard white) and Rudolph’s entire muzzle is red rather than having a bulbous, glowing nose. The unique illustration choices gave us a lot to talk about as we paged through the book.

This is a great new Christmas book for kids depicting Mrs. Claus as a strong, smart woman who gets the job done. The last illustration showing Santa handing an exhausted Mrs. Claus a mug of hot cocoa is a nice twist on the standard!
