Middle grade + diverse perspective + written in verse. I was destined to love this book!

OTHER WORDS FOR HOME so beautifully captures a refugee experience. It showed the beauty and comfort of the main character’s Syrian oceanside home before she was forced to leave because of encroaching danger. It showed the pain of separation from family. It showed the excitement, discomfort, and sometimes distress of relocation. It showed the hope of someday going home, all while finding a way to make home in a new place.

I read this in just a few hours and would love to read it again. I recommend it for all middle grade readers! I already pre-ordered a copy for Lu and Bean!
