I absolutely loved this middle grade graphic novel! ALL SUMMER LONG by author and illustrator Hope Larson had all the usual middle school angst, but it made me smile the whole way through.

Summer has just begun. Bina is excited to start the Summer Fun Index with her friend Austin, just as they have since they were eight. That is, until Austin announces that he’ll spend the first month of summer at soccer camp.

Bina must entertain herself while he’s gone. She makes friends with Austin’s sister by chance, when they learn they like some of the same obscure bands.

When Austin returns, the best friends struggle to fall back into a familiar groove. But the summer break has helped Bina understand what her own “thing” is—music. The book is about growing up, staying friends, and finding yourself—even when you’d rather hide behind others.

ALL SUMMER LONG is heart-warming and cool all at the same time. In a genre that is often predictable and overdramatic, ALL SUMMER LONG is completely genuine. I highly recommend it for graphic novel-lovers!
