If you’re looking for a fun new series for your new reader, give Beatrice Zinker a try! This is book #2 in the series by author/illustrator Shelley Johannes. As the cover illustration indicates, Beatrice is a super silly character who does all her best thinking upside down. The latest book in the series is called BEATRICE ZINKER UPSIDE DOWN THINKER: INCOGNITO.

Review: Beatrice Zinker Upside Down Thinker – Incognito

In this second installment, Beatrice and her best friend Lenny are determined to continue giving out “upsides.” Upsides are anonymous certificates recognizing their classmates for something positive.
But giving out upsides secretly proves difficult, and Beatrice has a way of making things harder than they need to be.
I love that the theme of the book is about kids going out of their way to make their classmates feel good about themselves. It’s a strong anti-bullying and pro-kindness theme, but it doesn’t come across as didactic. This is partly because Beatrice has a reputation as a trouble-maker. It’s all good trouble, though.
This book introduces two new characters that readers will love: the mysterious Sam and the heart-of-gold Wes.
This adorable illustrated chapter book is perfect for new readers. I liked the first book in the series, but this one was even more endearing and laugh-out-loud funny.

I hope there will be more from Beatrice!
